First-time author, Linda Lamp, has embarked on the journey of entertaining readers of all ages with the first in a series that promises to enthrall all who enter into this tantalizing sailing adventure. She brings us life aboard a privateer ship from the perspective of the ships cook – a new and engaging outlook for pirate lovers, cooks and fiction lovers.
Linda's passions in life include cooking, catering, traveling in the Caribbean and Central America, stained glass, intaglio artistry, and volunteering. She holds down a full time job as a property manager for a local business park, ensuring the “happiness and well being” of those entrepreneurs who so inspire her.
She believes she was born in the wrong place – New Jersey was very nice, but Bermuda (her first taste of the Islands) and the Caribbean have always called to her. Linda and her husband, Doug love to travel and while visiting the Caribbean Islands and Central America they have met amazing people, eaten outstanding cuisine, collected beautiful artwork and learned about local culture. They believe themselves to be truly blessed and look forward to extending their education.
Linda spent many years working with local wildlife rehabilitators and worked to save wildlife after the Tampa Bay Oil Spill, she lectured at the Orlando Wildlife Exposition in 1993, taught wildlife rescue and rehabilitation techniques at the Pelican Man Bird’s Sanctuary, was awarded an Anthony T. Rossi Community Service Award for her work with wildlife. She spoke at local grade schools about wildlife, teaching to recognize the difference between natural growth behaviors versus animals in true danger. She “babysat” an ill pygmy sperm whale at Mote Marine in Sarasota, Florida. Linda wrote her first book based on her experiences but has not yet published it.
She and her husband were, as they say, guided to a local SPCA shelter where they were adopted by Phoebe “the Pirate Pooch” – an abandoned Bouvier des Flandres. Phoebe has so enriched their lives they champion adoptions of abused and abandoned animals and urge people to avoid “puppy mill” puppies. They strongly support the ASPCA and thus 20% of net proceeds from sales of her books and coming product lines will be donated to the ASPCA Ambassadors program to benefit homeless and abused animals.
She and her husband have been heavily involved in local community service organizations. They spent six years with the Hernando DeSoto Historical Society and another four years with the Anna Maria Island Privateers and are now active once again with the Hernando DeSoto Historical Society.
Linda resides in Florida with her husband, Doug, and their big, black disaster of a dog, Phoebe.
